Track Tuesdays 3

track tuesday! ...or wednesday.

I'm pairing up with Denise at Run DMT to bring you a weekly thread where you can brag, show off, cry or celebrate your weekly  (or whenever it is) speed workout. Whether it's Monday, Tuesday, or never, you can link up (at the bottom) and tell us all about your session. This week's was a Wednesday for me... grumble, grumble.

I'll start this post with a sigh. <insert dramatic sigh here> I find it so amazing, and so confusing, that after the amazing Saturday I had what with a PR and age group win and everything, that I am struggling so much with motivation this week.

Do you ever feel like this?
Tuesday morning I had every (maybe not every) intention of getting up and going to the track in the morning to get my workout in. Slept terribly on Monday night and just... couldn't get myself up in the morning. Unfortunately that schedule worsened on Tuesday night because we had our office holiday party, so there was no chance for that either. Track Tuesday fail.

I made it to the gym Wednesday after work, which was better than nothing in my book, but still not what I had hoped for. I was scheduled for 8 miles on Wednesday, which I also knew wouldn't happen, and opted for a track workout instead: 7 x 400 repeats. Do-able. I was scheduled for 9 on Tuesday, but when I got to the 5th repeat, I was already struggling, and thought I could settle for 6, and then I got to 6 and thought I could handle 7, and then I finished 7 and wanted to be done more than anything. 7 it was - again, better than nothing, but not awesome.

Splits at 2:04, 2:03, 2:01, 2:06, 2:05, 2:08, 2:08, 2:06. Also not awesome. But done. Here's to hoping the rest of the week improves... especially considering I've got a 17-miler scheduled for Saturday! Wish me luck!

Do you do regular speedwork as part of a training plan? Did you this week? Link it up! If you post on Twitter, don't forget to use #TrackTuesday too!

And feel free to add the button to your site and entry, too!

  1. What are you talking about?? Those splits ARE awesome! :)

I may need to get on board with this. I've been thinking weekly(ish) track workouts where I change it up and run variable distances and speeds and just have fun with it may be exactly what I need this off-season...

    1. Haha, thanks! They're good, I guess last week's session were just my legs on crack, all speedy and such! Not every week will be a great week, and that's just a fact of life!

Get on board and start sharing -- group accountability! :) I alternate track workouts with tempo runs, usually. I really enjoy it that way, prevents it from being super montonous. So far, it works! :)

  2. I'm a big believer in speedwork, even though those workouts are SO much harder. I mean, it makes sense when you think about it - to be faster, you have to run faster. And I agree with Runs for Cookies, those splits are great!!

    1. Thanks girl! Speedwork has definintely contributed to some quicker runs over the last few months, so it's exciting to see them WORKING! And I guess overall they're good splits, just not nearly what they were at on my freak workout two weeks ago where all 8 splits were at 2 minutes or under. Shenanigans. :)
