Join the link up each week and join in the fun! I'm hoping to hold myself more accountable to my training plan and I know that putting it out there each week is going to help me do that! Join in, link your recap and connect with other friends to hold us all accountable too!
Well, we all know it was marathon week (because who didn't know, right?) and despite feeling super great on Sunday and Monday post-race, I didn't want to schedule anything during this week so I could enjoy a true recovery. Aside from yoga, nothing was scheduled and I did as I pleased. Isn't that what recovery is all about? Thus why all the days were scheduled for "rest" and then I sort of did as I felt able throughout the week leading up to Saturday's 5K.
My Phoenix Marathon race recap is here if you'd like to check it out! It's a strange feeling to be happy with not meeting A or B goals, but trust me, it does a world of wonder for your psyche and mental state heading into another (better) cycle of marathon training!
Sunday | Rest
Sunday was just a drive back from Phoenix and reflecting on an amazing weekend with my love and dear friends. We stopped for gas and some stretch breaks for me and got home about 3 in the afternoon to hang for a bit and then go finish my recovery day at...
DISNEY! Because, duh. |
I was definitely feeling all the post-marathon RUNGER all day Monday. Like, couldn't get enough food, please feed me all the time kinda hunger. Rough. I felt really great on Monday (unlike LA last year where post-race day 2 was horrendous and I wanted to die), and though I wore calf sleeves under my slacks to work (clever, right?), it really wasn't even necessary. I felt so good, I realize that I ran smarter than I'd even thought. Another win in the Phoenix Marathon books.
Tuesday | Rest
I wanted to get up and go for a walk Tuesday morning with the pup, but Snooze won me over. I was out on the couch at nearly 9 on Monday night, so I figured the extra sleep would do me good. Sorry, pup. But I got an amaaaaazing massage on Tuesday night (hello 90 minute treat!) that left me ready for bed right away - instead, we ended up watching a couple Fuller House episodes and making it to bed around 11. Oops.
Wednesday | Yoga
Despite getting to bed much later than normal on Tuesday night, I woke up at 5:30 (before my alarm!) and rolled out of bed for an awesome run-walk around the neighborhood with Molly. I haven't intentionally been up to see the sunrise (asides from a race morning) in forever, so it was a nice treat to start the day.
Yoga was a definite must that night too - a good stretch to keep working Phoenix out of my legs. It was a HARD night (lots of shoulder work) and shoulders are not my strongest (hence the need for some more weight training!) but it felt good to stretch some more and keep working my legs out.
1.65 mile run/walk @ 15:00 pace
60 minutes yoga
Thursday | Rest
Thursday I intended to run before work but then the alarm clock won. Then j wanted to after work but my stomach won and was acting funny so I opted to stick close to home. So instead I got in some living room yoga with Molly as my spectator.
Saturday | Dairy Aire 5K
Looks like you had a really productive rest week! But after a marathon everyone needs a few days completely off. I love the costumes for the 5K too- that's pretty cute. Hope you are feeling rested and recovered from Phoenix and your trip/travelling.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! A very productive rest week that left me feeling just SO GOOD. I've never felt that great post-marathon so that was definitely an indicator that I ran smart. I'll take it! :)
DeleteYAY! Congrats on your 3rd in AG finish! Rock star!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :) I've never not placed at this race, so it's nice to keep up the trend! :)
